Harsh Vaibhav was adjudged Nobilian of the Year at the Graduation Nite on January 30. One hundred and eleven of 10thers went through this solemn ceremony. Harsh is also the student editor of the DNS website

Fr Welch no more

Father Eugene Welch, SJ (September 11, 1928 to October 23, 2009)

It is with great sorrow that we announce the sad demise of Father Eugene Welch, S.J. on October 23, 2009 at the age of 81. May God bless this kind soul with eternal peace.

Father Welch was born on September 11, 1928 in Pittsburgh and joined the Society of Jesus in 1947. He came to India as a scholastic in 1951 and was ordained as a Priest in 1960.

Father Welch had two tenures at De Nobili School. The first one was for a brief period from 1961 to 1962 while the second tenure lasted from 1976 to 1980. He taught Moral Science at De Nobili School in 1977 and 1978. The boys in his class liked him immensely because he allowed the "Wally Ricky Band" to perform in the Moral Science Class much to the amusement of everyone.

Japanese guests at DNS

A team of 23 students and four teachers of Yokko Jesuit High School in Kobe City from Japan arrived in the Coal City to know the various aspects of imparting education at De Nobili School in Digwadih, under an academic exchange programme.

The Japanese kids mingled quite easily with the students of De Nobili School with only the language barrier to cope up with. They participated in various games including football and basketball. The Nobilians gave a tough fight to the students of Yokko High School in a friendly football match, that finally come to a drawn. DNS won the basketball match against the visitors with score 28-8 in Home team favour.

One of the teachers, who came along with the Japanese students, Taijuyamanaka-FJ, said that even though he was in Dhanbad for a very short time, he was very happy to meet the people, students and teachers here.

Rosy miss completes 15 years of service

Mrs Roselind Scott, Rosy miss to Nobilians, was honoured for 15 years of service to the school by Fr George Thana SJ, Rector. Mrs Scott joined DNS on March 1, 1994 and has served as a secretary to the Principal of De Nobili School.

DNS FRI wins Inter Jesuit Elocution competition

De Nobili School, FRI was the overall champion at the Inter Jesuit Elocution competition held on Aug 29 at St Xavier's Hazaribarg. The distinction has returned to the school after 5 years.

Harsh Vaibhav, who is also the school editor of DeNobili.edu.in, won the first prize in extempore. Rachit Francis won the third prize in the senior elocution and Rishabh Sinha came fourth in the junior elocution.
