In an email interview to the Honorary Editor of DeNobili.edu.in, Fr Sebastian Puthenpura, SJ, Principal-designate of De Nobili School, FRI shares his views on issues like teacher-student relationship, approaches to education, internet and role of alumni.

Fr Sebastian Puthenpura, SJ

Q: How do you define a teacher-student relationship?

A: I would have been much more at ease if you had asked me to describe rather than define a teacher-student relationship because by defining a relationship we are trying to confine it within the limited scope of a few words or sentences. It is much more complex than we would imagine.

Telephone: (410) 234-3990

Father Hess and the new Principal of De Nobili Digwadih, Father Sebastian Puthenpura will also be joining us for the re-union as our guests of honor.

So far we have four Nobilians who have confirmed that they will be coming. They are Abhijit Niamgaonkar, Deven Verma, Debashish Basak and myself.

Given the vast distances it is difficult for everyone to make it especially those who are on the west coast. Nevertheless, we look forward to having as many Nobilians as possible for the re-union.

If you know of any Nobilians who may not have received this message, please feel free to invite them and forward this email to them.

With best wishes,

Yours truly,

Rajat

Fr Hess: Rising cost of education

Attention: open in a new window. PrintE-mail

Fr George Hess Saturday, 11 July 2009 04:39

The cost of everything from rice to writing paper has increased exponentially these days. The cost of education also has increased both for parents and for the teachers who educate their children.

De Nobili School is aware of rising costs and it is doing its best both to spare parents and to enable its teachers to meet their expenses. The education delivered by De Nobili is among the best in India and in fact in the world, as it borne out by the success of its alumni here and abroad.

The quality of that education is more than the costs to parents. The school is aware of the problems that all face in today's economy, and it is doing its best to avoid adding to problems.

Many of the older alumni of De Nobili are in positions of influence and success, due to the efforts of their parents in yester years; and they are now supports to their parents. They do not estimate the efforts parents put into their education as only what was due from them.

Equally I suggest that they do not today estimate the pains and expenses of the school as being only what the institution and their teachers were paid for. Alumni can show their gratitude to their school as they show their gratitude to their parents, by helping in the school's current trials and by donations to help the present generation of students. Several have done so in very generous ways. More is needed and can be done.

God's blessings on the cheerful giver.

Fr. George Hess, S.J.
