Dr Ashy Gupta (known as Subhashish Gupta in school) passed away on December 28, 2008. Dr Gupta died due to due to medical negligence. Our heart goes out to his wife Monika and 9-year-old son Sunny.
"Subhashish was a very warm person, a sincere friend, a wonderful guitarist and an endearing man. I am really sad and sorry to see him pass away. May God give his wife Monika and son Sunny the strength to bear this profound loss and peace to the departed soul," said Rajat Bhatia, Classmate of Subhshish Gupta.
Another of his friend, Naveen Roberts said, "I am aware of this sad bit of news about Subhashis (Mithu) as he was fondly known, because was my batchmate of 1980, a great friend and a fellow guitarist. We used to play together in the musicals. We have a 80s batch networking and came to know about it quite sometime back. Infact, I still have his last mail addressed to us after his operation. We sincerely pray for his departed soul and are in touch with his family in US to give whatever support may be needed in due course."
"May God rest his good soul; and may he guide and protect his family," said Fr George A Hess, SJ, Former Principal.
"I am sorry to hear about Dr. Ashy's Gupta's sudden demise. My heartfelt condolances to Monika and Sunny..
I came close to him during the Golden Jubilee days. We exchanged hunderes for letters. He was warm and a loving person, very much attached to his Alma Mater. May God Grant Him Eternal Rest," said Fr Pius Fernandes, SJ, Former Principal.
"I will pray for the repose of soul and for his family," added Fr George Fernandes, SJ, Principal.
"I and my family are extremely shattered to hear about Ashy's death.I do not quite clearly remember about him in school- if he was Rajat's classmate then a batch junior to me. But I'd been observing the passion with which he was participating in De Nobili discussions- ever since the Net netted alll of us. We pray to God to let his soul rest in peace and give strength and fortitude to his wife and child to tide over this grief," said Vivek Sahay.
"The pathos in passing of Dr. Subhashis Gupta pains us. May his soul rest in peace. Medical negligence must be sued. As nobilian, let me know, whether we shall be of any help to the family," said Dr Soumitra Jash.
"I express my heartfelt deepest condolence for Ashy's untimely demise. May his departed soul rest in peace and may his family gather strength to live comfortably in this harsh and struggling world," said Raja Chattopadhaya.
"It is unbelievable and the loss of DR Ashy, Subhashis to us at DNS, cannot be explained. We have to live now with the memories of Dr Ashy who made all of us proud of his achievements and who has been a truely caring friend who never missed the chance of enquiring how we are keeping even living thousand of miles away from us. May his soul rest in peace," said Anjan Sen.
"It was very painful & heart throbbing to know the untimely demice of The Nobilian. May God bless his soul and help his wife & son to face this great loss," said Santodev Mukherjee.Contrary to general information, we came to know that Ashy did not die from a heart attack but due to medical negligence on part of the doctors. He was in good health but had some back problem for which he was operated upon. A medicine given to him had an adverse reaction and he dies at 9:30 pm on 28th Dec in his wife's arms. As one of his close friends put it "There was no need for this man to die. He did not even drink. There was NO heart attack. His wife told me everything about what happened. She has retained some lawyers from Boston to sue the doctors and hospital but that will not bring back Ashy unfortunately."
Nobilians shud pray for peace to the departed soul and also offer any kind of help that they can give to Ashy's wife Monika and son Sunny. Write to us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

I'm sorry for not being able to communicate with any of you as I was hospitalised from 4th of Dec and underwent a massive split-disk & neuro surgery in my spinal chord. I got released yesterday only and am back home. Feeling extremely weak with limited range of activities...I can only get up from bed and walk down to the toilet and sink. My wife Monica carried over the laptop to my bed for which I am able to write back to yo I woul d need another couple of weeks to get back to my nornal course of life.
